In January–November, 242,185 asylum procedure decisions were issued.
According to the BAMF, there was a 60.3% increase in asylum applications this year. 21,287 of the initial applications concerned children under one year of age born in Germany.
Citizens of Syria, Türkiye, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran are among the first to apply for refugee status.
The federal office said the decrease in asylum requests made by citizens of some countries, such as Azerbaijan, is due to the possibility of coming to Germany with study and work visas.
