Mohammed Mukhtar Al-Khalil: AI should not be source of stereotypes, discrimination

To eliminate bias against Islam, it is necessary to diversify the training data used in the development of artificial intelligence, Director of the Al Jazeera Research Center (Qatar) Mohammed Mukhtar Al Khalil said during a panel discussion at the international scientific conference "Islamophobia in Focus: Unveiling Bias, Shattering Stigmas."

Report quotes him as saying AI systems trained on limited sources tend to reproduce and even amplify bias against Islam and Muslims.

He emphasized the need to review approaches to the development of AI and include a broader and more objective understanding of Muslim societies, their culture and values in training materials.

"Artificial intelligence should be an advanced tool that serves the benefit of humanity, and not a source of stereotypes and discrimination," Al Khalil noted.
