Azerbaijani Ambassador to Mexico Mammad Talibov spoke in an interview with Julio Cesar Garcia, host of the local Canal 6 TV online media channel, about the current state of Azerbaijani-Mexican relations, his country's achievements and growing influence in the world, the embassy told Report.

Touching upon the traditionally good relations between Azerbaijan and Mexico, the ambassador noted with satisfaction the positive dynamics observed in recent years in relations with Mexico, one of Baku's most important partners in the Latin American region. He noted the importance of the high-level visits to Mexico in recent months and highlighted the existing positive political dialogue between the two countries. Talibov also noted that there are exemplary inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries, including friendship groups operating in the legislative bodies of both countries, and very active cooperation relations have been formed between these groups.

The ambassador also spoke in the interview about the mutually beneficial and fruitful cooperation existing with Mexico within international organizations, and in this context, he emphasized the importance of cooperation between the countries within the framework of COP29.

During the interview, Talibov touched upon the great potential of cooperation in the economic sphere and said that currently, in order to give an additional impetus to cooperation between Azerbaijan and Mexico in this field, areas are being explored and concrete steps are being taken. He emphasized the changes created in the energy and transport map of the continent as a result of the worldwide projects implemented at the initiative of his country, and talked about the favorable opportunities emerging from Azerbaijan's strategic junction position for Mexican companies.

Touching upon the steps taken by his country in the field of renewable energy, the diplomat noted that Azerbaijan acts as a regional leader in the process of transition to green energy and is one of the countries making a significant contribution to the fight against climate change. He emphasized that his country has great potential, especially in wind energy, and said that Azerbaijan is already exporting green energy and is actively participating in a number of international projects in this field. Talibov, speaking about the existence of various cooperation formats with many countries in energy transition, expressed that Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with Mexico in this area.

Answering a journalist's question about the non-oil sector, along with the oil and gas strategy in his country's economic development, the ambassador said that despite Azerbaijan being historically an oil and gas country, important and successful steps have been taken towards diversifying the economy over the past 20 years and that special attention has been paid to the development of the non-oil sector.

Answering a journalist's question about the damage caused to the cultural heritage of his country as a result of the past conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ambassador Talibov provided information about Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan. He noted with regret that, especially during the 30-year occupation, Armenia systematically destroyed the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan and extensively mined the occupied territories. He called on the world community to assist Azerbaijan in mine action. At the same time, he emphasized that Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty after the Patriotic War, recalling that 2025 was declared the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty" in his country. The ambassador added that large-scale restoration and construction work is currently underway in the territories liberated, and important steps are being taken to return internally displaced persons to their homelands.
