Matviyenko: Heydar Aliyev stood at origins of Russian-Azerbaijani relations

The strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Russia serves the interests of both countries, Russian Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said during the opening of the 22nd meeting of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Commission, according to Report.

"Heydar Aliyev, the great statesman and national leader of Azerbaijan, was at the foundation of our relations. He believed that the world evolves through creation. It is this spirit of creation and mutual trust that forms the basis of the ties between Russia and Azerbaijan," Matviyenko emphasized.

She also highlighted the significant role of inter-parliamentary dialogue, noting that direct communication has been established between the two parliaments, with a joint roadmap for cooperation in place. "The inclusion of members of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis and Russian MPs in the delegation speaks to the level of our cooperation and allied relations," she added.

Matviyenko further expressed her gratitude to Azerbaijan for supporting the Russian language, offering special thanks to Mehriban Aliyeva for her efforts in this regard.
