Luc Reinette: France brought misery to Africa in order to expand its territories

France has brought misery to Africa in order to expand its territory, Luc Reinette, a founding member of the International Reparations Movement and the Committee of the Black Peoples Union said at a panel session on "History and Memory of Colonialism" held within the framework of the international conference titled "Towards the Decolonization of Guadeloupe: Challenges and Perspectives" held in Baku, Report informs.

According to Reinette, thousands of people in Guadeloupe lost their lives in the struggle against colonial policies:

"France has historically tried to increase their activities in schools and churches and in this way turn us into a colony. They used the people of Guadeloupe as slaves, exploited them, and tried to brainwash young people in churches and convert followers of different religions. They forced children in schools to say that the Gauls were their ancestors, while their ancestors were Africans. In short, they tried to deprive children of historical truths."

Reinette said that freedom is something they have not yet tasted:

"France calls itself a legal state and does not accept colonial policies. However, we know our history and France pursued a colonial policy against Guadeloupe. France brought misery to Africa in order to expand its territories."
