The Armenian attempt to internationalise the issue of Karabakh was frustrated at the United Nations where it was apparent the Security Council was not going to accept the definitions of blockade and genocide Yerevan demanded, Irish historian and political scientist Patrick Walsh told Report.
"Azerbaijan’s provision of alternative access for supplies to the Karabakh Armenians has also negated the 'blockade drama' Yerevan was hoping to create with the EU observers," Walsh said.
He said therefore Armenians are looking for other potential avenues to grab the attention of the international community.
"One possible means would be through a military confrontation that would grab international attention, possibly also through embroiling the Russian peacekeepers in conflict," the expert said.
He said quite recently the Armenian publication, Massispost revealed that the ongoing talks [between Baku and Yerevan] should be seen as a period in which Armenia could rebuild its military capacity for the moment when conflict could be engaged in again.
"All this is familiar territory for Armenia which alternates between playing the victim in the hope of bringing in the West to engaging in military provocation and aggression when it feels itself strong enough," the expert said, adding that it is a cycle that repeats itself over and over again in Armenian history and a script that Yerevan seems to be incapable of departing from.
