Iranian FM: Strengthening transit routes is important for regional development

Iran's geographic position creates promising opportunities for developing transit routes and supporting regional development, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, Report informs.

"Iran has a privileged position. Strengthening transit routes, including the North-South direction, is essential for the region's development and food security. We hope that all North-South routes will be activated. The eastern branch is already running. We are ready to complete the western branch. The completion of this line is being discussed with Moscow. The Iranian side is seriously engaged in the construction of the rest of this route. This is one of the most critical issues that was also discussed today," Abdollahian said at a joint press conference with Lavrov.

The Iranian minister also stated that the Islamic Republic opposes changes in geopolitics in the South Caucasus.
