Heinui Le Caill: Polynesia suffering bitter consequences of France's nuclear test

We are suffering the bitter consequences of France's nuclear test in Polynesia, Chairman of the Commission on Education, Youth, and Sports of the Assembly of French Polynesia Heinui Le Caill said at the conference titled "French Polynesia's right to decolonization: challenges and perspectives" held at the Azerbaijani Parliament on May 30, Report informs.

He noted that France's nuclear tests seriously increased the incidence of various diseases in Polynesia:

“The number of the sick due to radiation has increased. Locals are suffering from France's nuclear tests. We demanded that France, which once conducted a nuclear test, fulfill its obligations. They conducted the nuclear test in our territories against our will.”

Heinui Le Caill emphasized that since 1985, 910 million euros have been spent on the recovery of people suffering from radiation, but 51% of them lost their lives:

“France has no support for us here. There were 100,000 people in that area when they conducted the first nuclear test in 1966. France did a nuclear test on our territory to protect its population, and we were a kind of victim.”
