Journalist: French media met Karabakh liberation with aggression

The liberation of Karabakh was met with aggression in French media, French journalist Jean-Michel Brun said at the international conference themed “Islamophobia in Focus: Unveiling Bias, Shattering Stigmas” in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that being a Muslim means being a suspicious person according to some:

"One reason for this institutional Islamophobia is the underrepresentation of Muslims or minorities in newsrooms or television programs. News programs and debates talk about Islam, but Muslim voices are rarely heard. Television channels prefer to invite foreigners who don't know Islam, openly Islamophobic forces, instead of well-known scholars, academics, experts who could present Islam in a humanistic, unbiased way that aligns with recommended values."

Jean-Michel Brun also pointed out that another tactic used by French media to avoid accusations of underrepresenting minorities in media is to put certain so-called "religious figures" who serve their interests on screen:

"French media executives who openly display their Islamophobic views need such figures to spread these ideas, because if any French person said those words, they would immediately be considered racist."
