Azerbaijan and Finland hold political consultations

The next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Finland was held in Helsinki on October 1.

Report informs citing the Foreign Ministry that the Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov headed the delegation from Azerbaijani side.

During the consultations, the Deputy Minister held meetings with Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland Matti Anttonen and Director General of the Foreign Ministry's Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Maimo Henriksson.

During the consultations, the sides discussed the current state of relations between the two countries and exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation. The sides stressed that there is a great potential for further expansion of relations between Azerbaijan and Finland in various fields. In particular, the sides discussed directions of cooperation in the field of economy and environment protection, vocational education, as well as the twining projects implemented in Azerbaijan with the participation of Finland.

Görüşlərdə Azərbaycan-Avropa İttifaqı münasibətləri, Finlandiyanın Aİ-ə sədrliyi çərçivəsində müəyyən etdiyi prioritetlər ətrafında fikir mübadiləsi aparılıb.

Məsləhətləşmələr zamanı həmçinin Ermənistan-Azərbaycan Dağlıq Qarabağ münaqişəsi və münaqişənin həlli prosesinin hazırkı durumu müzakirə edilib.

Bundan əlavə tərəflər Xəzər dənizi hövzəsində əməkdaşlıq, Azərbaycanın təşəbbüsü və iştirakı ilə reallaşdırılan regional enerji və nəqliyyat layihələri, habelə beynəlxalq təşkilatlar çərçivəsində əməkdaşlıq məsələləri, eləcə də qarşılıqlı maraq doğuran digər regional və beynəlxalq məsələlər ətrafında fikir mübadiləsi aparıblar.

Helsinkiyə səfəri çərçivəsində X.Xələfov həmçinin Finlandiya Parlamentinin Beynəlxalq əlaqələr komitəsinin sədr müavini, sabiq xariciişlər naziri İlkka Kanerva ilə görüşüb.

Khalafov informed the interlocutors about the reforms carried out in our country.

The sides exchanged views on Azerbaijan-EU relations, priorities set by Finland within the EU presidency.

Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the current status of the conflict settlement were also discussed during the consultations.

Moreover, the sides exchanged views on cooperation in the Caspian Sea, regional energy and transport projects implemented on Azerbaijan's initiative and participation, cooperation within international organizations, as well as other regional and international issues of mutual interest.

During his visit to Helsinki, Khalafov also met with head of the Parliamentary Defense Committee of Finland, former Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva.
