Azerbaijan is committed to its peace agenda, the country continues to pursue a policy based on national interests, taking into account international norms and principles, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told journalists, Report informs.
Speaking about the talks on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Jeyhun Bayramov noted the ‘positive results’ achieved at the talks in Washington. “Here, the number of agreed points has increased,” he added.
“In May of this year, a meeting was held in Washington with the direct participation of international mediators. Negotiations were held between the relevant delegations of the two countries. Subsequently, this process was continued at the level of heads of state, several meetings were held during May. Negotiations on a peace treaty with the Armenian delegation were held in Moscow as well. And in the near future it is planned to hold another meeting in Washington. You know that the start of negotiations on a peace agreement is an initiative of Azerbaijan, the basic principles were announced by Azerbaijan, and the first draft of the peace agreement was submitted by Azerbaijan. We consider it inevitable that peace be achieved in accordance with the principles of international law. A peace treaty and an agreement on the normalization of interstate relations must be prepared and signed. It is impossible to predict how long this process will take,” the minister stressed.
