Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev has expressed confidence in the further development and strengthening of relations with Poland, thanks to the joint efforts of the parties, Report informs.
Fariz Rzayev said at an event in Baku on the occasion of the anniversary of the adoption of the Polish Constitution that the relations between Azerbaijan and Poland are based on good historical traditions.
"Poland was one of the first to recognize the independence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic in the East, and at that time, there was a Polish consular office in Baku," he noted.
The deputy minister emphasized that the Poles took an active part in the life of the ADR, played an important role in shaping the architectural appearance of Baku in the late 19th - early 20th centuries.
"Polish engineers have also contributed to the development of the oil industry of Azerbaijan. After the restoration of independence, relations were established with Poland at both the bilateral and multilateral levels. Over the years, our countries have established close ties based on mutual respect and trust, developed cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres," Rzayev said.
He reminded that in 2017, a declaration on strategic partnership and a roadmap for economic cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Poland were signed, and over the past year, the foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and held a telephone conversation earlier this year.
"Consultations on strategic partnership also took place in Baku. All this is an indicator of our ongoing political dialogue. Economic relations between the countries are developing. The activities of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation are of particular importance. The Azerbaijan Trade House in Warsaw and the Polish Exhibition House in Baku also contribute to this progress. Exchanges in the field of interregional cooperation, humanitarian sphere, culture, science and education continue. In the 2023-2024 academic year, about 4,000 Azerbaijani students studied in Poland," he added.
