Farid Shafiyev: Int’l donor support for Azerbaijan’s demining efforts remains minimal

Foreign aid for humanitarian demining in Azerbaijan remains significantly lower than the assistance provided to similar efforts elsewhere, according to Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Management Board of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), Report informs.

Speaking at a UN briefing titled "Saving Lives through Humanitarian Mine Clearance Activities in Azerbaijan," jointly organized by Azerbaijan’s Permanent Mission to the UN and the AIR Center, Shafiyev highlighted the limited international support for Azerbaijan’s mine-clearance operations.

He noted that since the start of large-scale demining activities in 2020, foreign aid has accounted for only 6% of the resources dedicated to mine clearance in Azerbaijan.

“This figure is remarkably low, both considering the scale of Azerbaijan’s demining challenges and compared to the level of contributions typically allocated by the international donor community to similar issues elsewhere,” he stated.
