European expert: Will France allow separatism and armed groups in its territory?

The European public is largely preoccupied with the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, leaving little attention to the South Caucasus, Austrian political analyst Martin Malek told Report.

According to him, such propaganda was carried out in Central and Western Europe that after Azerbaijan regained its sovereignty in Karabakh, it could allegedly take Zangazur under its control: “However, there is no fact that can confirm this.”

Malek noted that France's image problem in Azerbaijan has increased: “French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, who visited Armenia at the beginning of October, said that Paris had agreed to deliver military equipment to Armenia. Official Baku sharply criticized it.”

Regarding Paris's support for separatism, the expert emphasized that France can be asked about the problem of separatism on its territory, especially on the island of Corsica.

“Would France tolerate Corsica's creation of an army on its territory, declaration of independence, etc.? Of course not! But it is also clear that other things are in the foreground in France itself, rather than the South Caucasus. Concretely, we can mention the internal political effects of the renewed Middle East conflict. The fact that an MP from the radical leftist La France Insoumise party called the Palestinian Hamas organization a resistance movement, not a terrorist organization, led to the collapse of the left alliance called NUPES. In any case, we can hope that soon a peace treaty will be concluded between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” he added.
