The European Union actively supports initiatives that promote equal opportunities, support women's leadership and break stereotypes within its partnership with Azerbaijan, the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Peter Michalko, said at an event themed "Overcoming barriers and making a difference" held in Baku on the occasion of International Women's Day, Report informs.
Michalko noted that gender equality is one of the main lines of the EU's international policy:
"The EU continues to support the empowerment of women globally."
The ambassador believes that strengthening gender equality contributes to building a stronger society:
“That is why we will highlight the determination of women in diplomacy, the arts, the economy and many other important areas. We believe that societies are stronger, more prosperous, more innovative and more resilient when women have equal access to opportunities, education and leadership positions. Only when women have these opportunities can society fully realize its potential.”
According to Michalko, gender equality is also one of the main pillars of economic and sustainable development:
“We actively support initiatives within the EU-Azerbaijan partnership that promote equal opportunities, support women’s leadership and break stereotypes. The European Union is committed to removing barriers and enabling every woman to thrive. Let’s work together to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to make a lasting impact on society.”
