The European Union is closely following the situation in the South Caucasus, a high-ranking EU representative told a briefing in Brussels, responding to a question from Report.
"Thank you for mentioning these important negotiations [between Azerbaijan and Armenia]. We are closely following what is happening in the region, also encouraging both sides to come to a normalization of relations and complete peace negotiations," the official emphasized.
At the same time, according to the EU representative, the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not included in the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, which will take place early next week in Brussels.
"However, foreign ministers may wish to express their support for the peace process between the parties," added the EU representative.
On July 10 in Abu Dhabi, a meeting took place between the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. The leaders discussed peaceful settlement and agreed to continue bilateral negotiations and trust-building measures between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
