A mine action conference in Azerbaijan is a good opportunity to highlight this issue and draw the attention of the international community to this issue, Azerbaijani President's Representative for Special Assignments Elchin Amirbayov told journalists, Report informs.
He noted that more than 300 international experts participated in the event: “In my opinion, many countries have already expressed their interest in assistance, and Saudi Arabia is one of these countries. The European Union has expressed its readiness to boost this aid. Azerbaijan, realizing its responsibility regarding the landmine problem, ensured 95% of mine action funding.”
Amirbeyov stressed that the international community should pay due attention to the elimination of the landmine problem.
“It is Armenia's humanitarian and moral duty to hand over all of the mine maps to Azerbaijan. We know that the percentage of accuracy of the mine maps that Armenia has given us so far is very low, so ANAMA and other institutions don’t rely on them,” he said.
