Muslims living in France are subject to a certain degree of pressure and discrimination, the director of the Institute of Islamic Sciences in Paris, Nourredine Belhout, said at the “Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024” international conference in Baku, Report informs.
He emphasized that Azerbaijan also suffered from Islamophobia: “The territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country were violated, which was a great injustice. Hatred towards Muslims led to the destruction of almost all religious monuments and cemeteries in the occupied territories.”
Belhout noted that Azerbaijan is a secular state. “However, as a Muslim country, Azerbaijan faces unfair treatment, and our goal is to change this,” he said.
