A memorial event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was held at Columbia University in New York, which is one of the leading higher education institutions in the United States.

According to Report's American bureau, the event was organized by the Azerbaijani-American Youth Federation with the support of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora of Azerbaijan.

The memorial event was attended by Azerbaijani students and scholars studying at various universities in the United States, Azerbaijani diplomats working in this country, as well as representatives of the local community.

The speakers informed those present about the genocides committed by Armenians against the Azerbaijani people at different times. It was emphasized that the Khojaly massacre is on par with the tragedies in Khatyn and Hiroshima as one of the most terrible crimes of the 20th century.

A short film about the Khojaly genocide was shown as part of the event.

Music dedicated to the memory of the victims of Khojaly was also performed, and paintings dedicated to the Khojaly genocide and painted by students of the New York-based Center for Creative Development of Children and Youth "My Way" were presented. In addition, the sculpture "Khojaly Massacre" by Azerbaijani artist and sculptor Emin Guliyev was presented at the memorial event.
