BIG to organize international conference on decolonization at UN headquarters

An international conference titled "Decolonization: The Quiet Revolution" will be held on April 15 at the UN headquarters in New York, organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), Report informs.

The event will discuss in detail the profound effects of the colonial legacy in the economic, political and social spheres, as well as the efforts of indigenous peoples suffering from the consequences of colonial policies to achieve political and economic independence and the main obstacles they face in this process.

The conference will be attended by leaders and members of national resistance movements operating in the overseas territories - Guadeloupe, Martinique, Kanaki (New Caledonia), Saint-Martin, Reunion, Bonaire, Aruba, Mahoi Nui (French Polynesia), French Guiana, representatives of the International Decolonization Front, human rights defenders, politicians, decolonization experts, including representatives from former French colonies.

At the same time, the limitation of the right of indigenous peoples to self-determination and decolonization of territories by the governance models and institutional mechanisms applied by France will be the main topic of discussion.

The BIG delegation will also participate in the annual session of the UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent (PFPAD) as part of the visit.
