Azerbaijani, Saudi Arabian MFAs hold third round of political consultations

The third round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia has been held in Riyadh, Report informs, referring to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev, while the Saudi Arabian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed A. Elkhereiji.

During the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening bilateral relations and explored prospects for cooperation in political, economic, energy, and humanitarian fields. They noted that COP29, hosted by Azerbaijan in November 2024, created new opportunities for further collaboration.

The discussions also covered potential cooperation between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia within the frameworks of the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, and other international organizations, with an agreement to continue mutual support.

Detailed information was provided to the other party about the post-conflict situation in the region, Azerbaijan's efforts to establish lasting peace, the issue of landmines in the liberated territories, and ongoing reconstruction efforts.

The meeting emphasized the significant potential for cooperation in tourism, green energy, and investment. Regional and international issues, as well as other topics of mutual interest, were also discussed.

During the visit, Rafiyev also met with Khalid Almehaid, Deputy Energy Minister for Sustainability & Climate Change of Saudi Arabia.
