Azerbaijani FM invites Arab colleagues to NAM Summit in Baku

The Foreign Affairs Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated in the high-level international conference of the League of Arab States on "Support to the city of Jerusalem and its population" as the representative of Azerbaijan, the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), within the framework of his business trip to Egypt, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Jeyhun Bayramov invited his colleagues from Arab countries to participate in the highest level Summit of the Movement's Contact Group on the fight against COVID-19 in Baku.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, speaking at the conference, said it is important that the Palestinian issue is resolved under international legal norms, the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and relevant resolutions. In this regard, the importance of continuing joint diplomatic efforts to reach an international consensus toward finding a solution to the issue was emphasized.

Jeyhun Bayramov said that Azerbaijan supports the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state model. He expressed confidence that the protection of Jerusalem, where the holy places for three religions are located, will contribute to the peaceful coexistence of the population there in the future.

As an example of Azerbaijan's commitment to Islamic solidarity in the Palestinian issue, hosting of many international conferences to assist the State of Palestine, as well as continuous support to the UN Middle East Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, were mentioned.

Bayramov invited the conference participants to participate at the highest level Summit of the NAM Contact Group on the fight against COVID-19, which will be held next month in Baku, as an important opportunity to discuss the global recovery in the post-pandemic period.

Later, the conference participants exchanged views on the issues on the agenda.
