Azerbaijani deputy FM meets with Japanese MFA special envoy

Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov met with Masaki Ishikawa, Special Representative of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Central Asia, Caucasus, and GUAM, Report informs.

According to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed various aspects of cooperation regarding bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Japan:

During the discussions, they reviewed the expansion of economic and trade relations, particularly in industrial and energy sectors, as well as cooperation in humanitarian fields. The role of the State Commission for Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan and the Japan-Azerbaijan Economic Committee was emphasized, noting the importance of holding the next joint meeting next year. The significance of inter-parliamentary cooperation in developing bilateral relations was highlighted, and it was noted that intensifying mutual visits and contacts would be beneficial.

During the meeting, the Japanese side was thoroughly informed about the post-conflict period, Azerbaijan's steps toward establishing lasting peace, the mine problem in liberated territories, and restoration and reconstruction projects in Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions.

Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov informed the Japanese diplomat about the successful organization of COP29, its outcomes, and expressed gratitude to Japan for supporting Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency.

"The counterpart congratulated Azerbaijan on its COP29 presidency, the highly professional organization of the event, and leadership efforts in strengthening the fight against climate change. The importance of key agreements reached during COP29, particularly the establishment of the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance, decisions regarding the Paris Agreement, annual climate finance commitments of financial institutions, and the Loss and Damage Fund were emphasized, and Azerbaijan's activities in this direction were commended," Azerbaijan's MFA said.
