Azerbaijan once again elected as member of UNWTO Executive Council

On June 5, Azerbaijan was once again elected to the Executive Council of the UN Tourism for the period of 2025-2029 within the framework of the 71st session of the Regional Commission for Europe (CEU) held in Baku, Report informs, citing the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Azerbaijan.
The ministry noted that the elections were held in a highly competitive environment. Along with Azerbaijan, 9 candidate countries competed for 5 seats allocated for the European region in the UN Tourism Executive Council. Azerbaijan was elected to the Council in the first round of voting, gathering the majority of votes from participating member countries.
The UN Tourism Executive Council is the main governing body of the organization, consisting of 35 member countries. The Council is responsible for many important areas, including the election of the Secretary-General of the organization, implementation of strategies and plans, and ensuring the functionality and execution of decisions.
