Azerbaijan-Italy relations rely on historical roots, connections based on mutual trust, common interests, strategic partnership, and friendship, the chairman of the Working Group for the Azerbaijani-Italian Interparliamentary Relations, MP Azer Karimli told Report.
He said that the working visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Italy, the opening of the new building of the Azerbaijani embassy in Rome, the ceremony of exchange of documents signed in connection with the establishment of the Italy-Azerbaijan University, and the highest-level meetings held within the framework of this visit show that mutual relations are developing with positive dynamics in all directions:
"As is known, Italy is the first trade partner of Azerbaijan. In 2021, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Italy reached $9.6 billion, and in seven months of this year, it reached $11 billion. All these are pretty high indicators and, at the same time, demonstrate prospects for the development of mutual relations.
"When our lands were under occupation, Italy was a state that took a principled position on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, congratulated our country after the victory of our brave and victorious Army, and as a strategic partner of Azerbaijan, actively participated in the construction process carried out in our liberated territories.
"I am sure that President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Italy will become the beginning of a new stage in the development of mutual relations, as noted by the head of state. The opening of the Azerbaijani Culture Center in the new building of our embassy in Italy, which was inaugurated with the participation of Mr. President, and the steps taken regarding the development of mutual relations in the field of education are also crucial as part of this process."
