Azerbaijan and Canada hold first-ever political consultations

The first-ever political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Canada were held in Baku, Report informs, citing Azerbaijan's MFA.

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by the Head of the MFA Department for the Americas, Esmira Jafarova, while the Canadian delegation was led by the Executive Director of the Eastern Europe and Eurasia Division of the Canadian MFA, Andreas Weichert.

The parties discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral political relations, emphasizing the importance of regular contacts and mutual visits to promote sustainable dialogue.

The issues of economic cooperation were also touched upon, including the expansion of trade turnover and the implementation of joint projects in the fields of energy, transport and high technology. Particular attention was paid to interaction within the framework of COP29.

The Canadian side was informed about the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the landmine threat, and the restoration works in the liberated territories.
