Ashraf Keshk: Mechanisms need to be outlined for further co-op between NAM, Gulf states

Practical mechanisms need to be outlined for further cooperation between NAM and the Gulf states, Ashraf Mohammed Keshk, director of the Strategic and International Studies Program at the Derasat, or the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International & Energy Studies, said during the symposium “From Bandung to Baku: The Non-Aligned Movement in a Complex and Changing global context,” Report informs.

“Current international events influence the policy of the Arab states of the Persian Gulf,” he said.

Ashraf Keshk explained that the Ukrainian crisis had a clear impact on the emergence of a policy based on determining national interests, regardless of their agreement or disagreement with partners, and this also affected the countries of the Persian Gulf.

He noted the importance of developing relations among the Gulf countries and China, especially the visit of the president of China to Saudi Arabia in December 2022.

“Therefore, within the framework of the NAM, it is very important to pay attention to the promotion of mutual interests, it is necessary to block the threats and crises that developing countries face,” he said.
