Armenia interested in signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, says Secretary of Security Council

We are interested in signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan soon, Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, told Radio Liberty, Report informs.

He said that regional stability and peace are prerequisites for Armenia's independence and sovereignty: "Thus, democracy in our country will be protected too."

Grigoryan highly appreciated Washington's role in the Armenian-Azerbaijani talks: "The presence of the United States in the region contributes to ensuring stability, and Yerevan appreciates Washington's efforts in the progress of negotiations."

According to the Secretary of the Security Council, there are still unsolved problems: "But we are sincere in our peace efforts."

He once again confirmed that Armenia recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan: "The only issue we want is to hold a discussion between Khankandi and Baku regarding the security and rights of Armenians. If this happens, there can be no question of the territorial problem."

Grigoryan says these negotiations are the only effective option for a long-term solution to the main points of the Karabakh conflict. According to him, the international mechanism is the only option for establishing stability in the region and involving the international community in resolving the conflict: “It is difficult to imagine the elimination of the conflict without the participation of the international community."
