Ambassador of Ukraine Vladyslav Kanevskyi has visited the Alley of Martyrs, where he paid tribute to the memory of those killed in the bloody tragedy of January 20, 1990, Report informs referring to the ambassador’s Facebook page.

“The events of January 20, 1990 went down in the history of Azerbaijan as the Bloody January Tragedy. However, the cruelty and treachery of the Soviet regime could not destroy the thirst and will of the Azerbaijani people for freedom and independence. At one time, the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev said: “January 20, 1990 is the most tragic, black page, at the same time a page of heroism and courage in the history of the Azerbaijani people.” On this day, with sadness and at the same time a sense of pride, Azerbaijanis honor the memory of their heroes, who gave the most valuable thing - their lives for the right to independently choose the path of development for the sake of freedom and independence,” wrote the Ukrainian ambassador.
