The Council of Europe welcomes statements by Azerbaijan and Armenia on agreeing to the text of a peace treaty, reads a statement by the secretary general of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, Report informs.
"This draft Agreement is evidence of the will in both member states to fulfill this potential and build a stable and lasting peace in the region. It is now crucial to maintain this momentum and ensure the smooth completion of this process, in the spirit of good neighborly relations and with full respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries, in line with the Statute of the Council of Europe," reads the statement.
Berset noted that the Council of Europe fully supports the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
On March 14, the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Armenia officially announced the completion of negotiations on the text of the draft Agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Baku and Yerevan.
