Granit Xhaka in talks over shock Premier League return two years after Arsenal exit

Sunderland are reportedly in talks to sign Granit Xhaka ahead of their top-flight return, Report informs via talkSPORT.

The Black Cats are eyeing a deal worth £8.7 million for the midfielder. The midfielder is said to have been offered a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

According to transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri, the newly-promoted side are in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for Xhaka.

Sunderland are said to have offered the 32-year-old a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light. However, they face competition for his signature from Saudi Pro League outfit Neom SC.

The club have already signed former Premier League stars Alexandre Lacazette and Said Behrahma this summer.

Neom also achieved promotion last season after finishing top of the Saudi second tier.

Xhaka currently has three years remaining on his deal at Leverkusen, who he joined from Arsenal in 2023. He followed that move by winning a league and cup double in his debut season with the club.

The Switzerland international previously spent seven years in England with the Gunners.

During that time, he made 225 Premier League appearances, scoring 17 goals and adding 24 assists. Xhaka was also part of two FA Cup-winning sides across his spell in north London.
