Azerbaijan minifootball captain: "We knocked out the toughest opponent at the World Cup"

Azerbaijan national minifootball team captain Elvin Alizada shared his thoughts following the team’s dramatic Round of 16 victory at the WMF World Cup in Baku.

According to Report, speaking to journalists after the win over Romania, Alizada expressed pride in the squad’s performance.

"I'm happy we beat such a strong opponent. I believe we eliminated the toughest team in the tournament," said the captain, as quoted by Report. "Another major contender is Serbia. In the next round, we'll face England. We believe we can win and reach the semifinals. England is new to minifootball—I think we’re the stronger side."

Azerbaijan secured their quarterfinal spot by edging Romania in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
