Number of contactless cards more than doubled in Azerbaijan

Bank cards are used as the main tool in contactless payments in Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
According to the Bank, the pandemic triggered an increase of contactless payments around the world. As of July 1, 2021, the number of payment cards made up 10.4 million, up 16% from the previous year. Some 52% of these cards supported contactless payments. The number of contactless cards increased by 2.3-fold.
Currently, debit cards constitute 88% or 9.2 million, while credit cards constitute 12% or 1.2 million of total bank cards.
