Liquid assets of Azerbaijan's banking sector surpass $8 billion

As of January 1, 2025, the liquid assets of Azerbaijani banks amounted to 14.2 billion manats (just over $8.35 billion), constituting 26.9% of the country’s banking sector's assets, Report informs.

According to the report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers for 2024, this is 8.4% more compared to January 1, 2024.

The sector's liquidity indicators (total and foreign currency liquidity coverage ratios, instant liquidity ratio) exceeded the minimum regulatory requirement by more than 1.7 times.

Some 44.4% ($3.7 billion) of liquid assets were in foreign currency.

Moreover, 45% or 6.4 billion manats ($3.764 billion) of liquid assets are in government securities, 31% or 4.4 billion manats (approximately $2.6 billion) in nostro accounts, 14% or 2 billion manats ($1.176 billion) in cash, and 9% or 1.2 billion manats (approximately $706 million) in correspondent accounts with the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.
