Volume of transit oil transported via BTC pipeline down by over 17%

From January through September 2021, 26.17 million tons of oil were transported via Azerbaijan's main oil pipelines, 1.53% less than a year earlier, Report informs, citing the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

During the first nine months of 2021, 74.8% of the transportation was carried out via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil export pipeline.

During the reporting period, over 19.56 million tons of oil were transported through the BTC, 7.47% less compared to the same period last year.

Over the past nine months, more than 2.52 million tons of transit oil were transported via the BTC pipeline, which is 17.4% less than in January-September 2020.

The Heydar Aliyev Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Main Export Pipeline (BTC) is a pipeline built under the Contract of the Century to provide access to the world market for the crude oil produced in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. The length of the pipeline is 1,767 kilometers; 443 km of it passes through the territory of Azerbaijan, 248 km through Georgia, and 1,076 km through Turkey. The pipeline is expected to have a service life of 40 years and an average capacity of 1 million barrels per day.
