Turkiye intends to eliminate dependence on gas supplies by 2030

Turkiye aims to eliminate dependence on gas supplies by 2030, the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) CEO Melih Han Bilgin said, Report informs via Turkish media.

"One of the main gas suppliers to Turkiye is Russia (44%). Ankara pays for some of the supplies in rubles and is negotiating the price," Fatih Donmez, the Energy and Natural Resources Minister of Turkiye, said earlier.

"We are already planning for the coming years. Our goal is to eliminate Turkiye's dependence on natural gas by 2030. In 2022, Turkiye had a deficit of approximately $90-100 billion in terms of energy imports. The main problem of Turkiye's current account deficit is energy imports. In one month, the deficit is $8-9 billion. We are trying to close it," Sabah newspaper quotes Bilgin.

Speaking about the gas reserves discovered by Turkiye in the Black Sea, the head of TPAO said that this deposit can be used for 30-40 years.

"At the first stage, we will produce 10 million cubic meters per day. First of all, we will replace 10% of the total need. Instead of spending $9 billion a month, we'll be spending $8 billion," he said.
