STAR Refinery boosts petroleum coke production in Türkiye by over 14%

In January-February of 2025, the STAR Oil Refinery, an asset of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye, produced more than 141,236 tons of petroleum coke, marking an increase of 14.2%, or 17,514 tons year-on-year, Report informs, citing Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority.

In February alone, STAR Refinery produced 69,670 tons of petroleum coke, which is 11,710 tons or 20.2% more compared to the same period in 2024.

Overall, oil refineries in Türkiye produced more than 301,380 tons of petroleum coke in the first two months of 2025, representing an increase of 36,167 tons or 13.6% year-on-year. In February, more than 149,626 tons of petroleum coke were produced in the country, which is 11,041 tons or 7.97% more compared to the same month of 2024.

STAR Refinery was inaugurated on October 19, 2018. The foundation of the plant was laid on October 5, 2011. In September 2019, the plant started working at full capacity.

The plant can process 13 million tons of Urals, Azeri Light, and Kirkuk types of crude oil per year. Its main products are diesel fuel (4.8 million tons), jet fuel, naphtha (1.6 million tons), liquid petroleum gas, mixed xylene, and petroleum coke.
