Slovenia reveals key areas of energy cooperation with Azerbaijan

The provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the ministries of energy of Azerbaijan and Slovenia focus on strengthening partnership and exchanging experience in the energy sector - mainly in five key areas, the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy of Slovenia told Report.
As noted by the ministry, the primary objective of the memorandum is to encourage close cooperation between national gas companies - SOCAR and Geoplin - to ensure uninterrupted natural gas trade and the formation of a strategic partnership.
The document also aims to implement tasks to strengthen energy security and diversify gas supply routes to Europe. In particular, it provides support for the Southern Gas Corridor initiative and participation in related infrastructure projects.
One of the priorities of cooperation is the development of renewable energy sources and other clean technologies, including hydrogen energy, as well as supporting the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of energy system digitalization.
The final direction is strengthening interaction within the framework of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan, as well as participation in EU energy initiatives related to fulfilling climate commitments in accordance with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.
The ministry also noted that the memorandum is framework in nature and does not contain a specific roadmap or timeline for implementing the provisions.
The memorandum was signed on April 4, 2025, in Baku during the 11th ministerial meeting of the Advisory Council on the Southern Gas Corridor and the 3rd ministerial meeting of the Advisory Council on Green Energy.
