Minor oil exports via Baku-Supsa pipeline recorded in 2024

The volume of oil transportation via the Western Route Export Pipeline (Baku-Supsa) oil pipeline in 2024 amounted to 90,000 tons, Report informs referring to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.

In 2023, the volume of oil exports via the Western pipeline amounted to 150,000 tons. Thus, in 2024, compared to the previous year, the export of Azerbaijani oil via the Baku-Supsa pipeline decreased by 40%.

The pumping of oil via the Baku-Supsa pipeline was stopped in March 2022. Then, from April 1 to 17, repair and adjustment work was carried out on the pipeline, and the transportation of oil resumed - several shipments were made from the Supsa terminal. Then, oil exports via the Western route stopped again due to the lack of applications for the shipment of Azeri Light oil from the Supsa terminal.

At the same time, BP Azerbaijan noted that the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline is not currently in use, and that Azeri Light oil is exported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. However, the company noted that the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline "is not frozen and is fully prepared to begin transporting oil at any time."

The Baku-Supsa oil pipeline was commissioned on April 17, 1999. The pipeline is 837 km long and has a diameter of 530 mm. The pipeline, with a capacity of 7.5 million tons of oil per year, was built under a contract to develop the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields.
