Slovenia sincerely wishes to strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan, and is in favor of further strengthening the partnership, especially in the field of gas supply, Minister of Environment, Climate and Energy of Slovenia Bojan Kumer said at the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting, Report informs.
According to Kumer, the importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the rest of Europe is growing: "It is also appropriate to mention green energy here. Constructive relations have been established between Azerbaijan and Slovenia. We are a small country, to some extent, and we are energy dependent. We understand the importance of energy supply and know that this is the main criterion for economic development."
He said that the political situation has changed significantly in recent years, making diversification of energy resources and routes more important than ever.
"Given this new reality, a reliable partnership is very important. Azerbaijan has clearly proven this. Slovenia is committed to this partnership and welcomes the efforts of the European Commission to strengthen this cooperation," Kumer noted.
The minister emphasized that the Southern Gas Corridor is a very important route and connects the Caspian Sea region to European markets:
"Looking ahead, we must acknowledge that our energy security cannot be limited to natural gas. Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29 has become a clear signal that we must take action on climate change and address the challenges it faces. So, we must take decisive steps and strengthen cooperation in the field of clean green energy, including hydrogen. We are also interested in other clean energy technologies and are expanding our cooperation in the energy sector."
