Jabbarov: Gas exports growth must align with commercial goals

The main goal of increasing Azerbaijan's gas export volumes is to achieve commercially beneficial results,

The Economy Minister of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SOCAR, Mikayil Jabbarov, told Report in Kilis, Türkiye, where the opening ceremony of the Türkiye-Syria gas pipeline was held.

According to Jabbarov, increasing or maintaining the volume of gas exports is not a goal in itself:

"The main goal is for Azerbaijan to fully fulfill the contractual obligations it has undertaken. This should serve our country's international reputation and at the same time be commercially efficient. So the main evaluation criterion here is not numbers, but the combined synthesis of such factors and results."

The minister added that the situation in the gas market is constantly changing, and this dynamic also conditions planning.

"For this reason, we should take as our goal not just numbers, but the overall balance of these criteria," Jabbarov emphasized.

In January-June 2025, Azerbaijan exported over 12.36 billion cubic meters of natural gas worth just over $4.54 billion. The volume of natural gas exported during this period increased by 4.56% YoY and its value soared by 11.62% YoY.
