India aims to boost coal output to 1.5B tons by 2030

India intends to increase coal production and produce 1.5 billion tons of coal by 2029-2030, said Minister of Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi, Report informs referring to foreign media.
“There are plans to increase coal production to meet the growing demand. It is estimated to be 1.5 billion tons by 2029-2030. To ensure smooth transportation of coal to end users, steps are also being taken to improve transportation infrastructure through new railway projects and mechanized coal loading as part of first-mile connectivity projects,” the minister said during a discussion in the Upper House of the Indian Parliament.
Earlier, Joshi said that in the current financial year, the country's coal production plan is 1.01 billion tons, and in 2025-2026, Coal India Ltd also plans to produce 1 billion tons. India is one of the five largest coal-producing countries in the world.
