EU expands sanctions on supply of equipment for oil, LNG production to Russia

The fifth EU sanctions package, put into effect on April 8, expanded the ban for European businesses on the supply of equipment and technologies for oil refining and the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Russia, according to the decision of the EU Council on a new package of sanctions and annexes to this decision published in the Official Journal of the EU, Report informs citing RIA Novosti.

For the first time in July 2014, the EU introduced restrictions on the supply of equipment and technologies for oil production to Russia, in particular in the polar latitudes and on the shelf, and as new sanctions packages were adopted, it expanded these wordings and the list of equipment prohibited for supplies.

EU states are prohibited from selling, transferring or facilitating the acquisition, directly or indirectly, of products and technologies that are used for oil refining and the production of liquefied natural gas, to any individual or legal entity, company or organization in Russia or for use on the territory of the Russian Federation, the statement reads.

According to the annex to the EU Council resolution, the EU does not allow its companies to supply systems for cooling and liquefying gas, equipment for separating hydrocarbons into fractions during the production of LNG and oil refining to Russia, as well as a wide range of chemical equipment for various stages of oil refining.
