Erdogan: Turkiye seeks to wean itself off dependence on energy imports

Thanks to the successful steps taken by the Turkish government, the installed capacity of the country's energy system has tripled - up to 103,000 MW, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a meeting of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Justice and Development Party on Wednesday in Ankara, Report informs citing Anadolu.

The head of state stressed that, unlike European countries, Turkiye today has no problems with energy supply.

"Gas supplies from the Sakarya field in the Turkish sector of the Black Sea, as well as the commissioning of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, will make a significant contribution to Turkiye's energy security. We will continue steps to ensure the country's complete independence from energy imports," Erdogan assured.

According to him, one of the priority areas will be renewable energy.

The head of state further drew attention to the growth of the country's export potential, including in the defense industry.

The Turkish leader noted that Turkiye's GDP growth will be 4-5% by the end of the year.

"The goal of the government is to add the country to the list of world's top ten leading economies. Our best legacy will be a strong international power," the politician stressed.
