Elnur Soltanov: Clean hydrogen to be one of initiatives of COP29 presidency

Elnur Soltanov, Deputy Minister of Energy and CEO of COP29, has emphasized that clean hydrogen will be one of the key initiatives of Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency, Report informs with reference to Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry.

He made the remark during his opening speech at an event organized by GIZ under the German Foreign Ministry's H2-diplo - Decarbonization Diplomacy initiative.

Soltanov outlined Azerbaijan's strategic plans and initiatives as the host of COP29, including activities planned for the energy day. He highlighted that Azerbaijan's energy transition efforts, the cornerstone of its decarbonization strategy, began long before the country assumed the COP29 presidency. Interestingly, the chosen slogan for global climate discussions at COP29 aligns almost perfectly with Azerbaijan's pre-existing national agenda.

The deputy minister expressed hope that the focus on clean hydrogen, particularly in the realm of international certification schemes, will significantly boost the sector's development.

He also discussed ongoing collaborations with international partners in this field and emphasized that the Caspian-European Green Energy Corridor is exploring export opportunities not only for green electrons but also for green hydrogen.
