Drilling of 3rd well planned at Shallow Water Absheron

This year, it is planned to drill a third well in the North Khali prospective area of the Shallow Water Absheron Peninsula, Report informs referring to the joint statement of the operator of the block of fields - BP-Azerbaijan and partners for 2021.

Drilling of the first exploration well was completed in December 2021. The well was closed per the original design and plan, the statement said.

Drilling of the second well began on December 11 at the promising area of ​​Bibiheybat: "The well has already been drilled to a depth of 2,470 meters; drilling is currently ongoing."

On December 22, 2014, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and BP signed an agreement on conducting exploration work on potential promising structures located in a shallow area around the Absheron Peninsula in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. The agreement covers the territory up to the borders of the Caspian basin south of the Absheron Peninsula. The contract covers an area of ​​1,900 sq. km.

There are presumably oil reserves in the prospective shallow water area around the Absheron Peninsula. Drilling is planned to be carried out with the help of the Satti floating drilling rig, owned by the KazMunayGas company.
