China, Kazakhstan implementing pilot project to introduce electricity storage system

An agreement has been signed in Beijing on the implementation of a pilot project to introduce an electricity storage system into the unified electric power system of Kazakhstan, according to the press service of the KEGOC company, Report informs referring to Kazakh media.

The agreement was signed between KEGOC JSC, China Power International Development Limited, China Power International Holding Limited and the Association of Legal Entities “Renewable Energy Association of Kazakhstan.”

“The purpose of the pilot project is to study the impact of electricity storage systems on the regulation of the energy system when integrating renewable sources of electricity into the unified electric power system of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” reads the statement.

The company explained that China Power International Development Limited will install an electricity storage system with a capacity of up to 5 MW at the substation of KEGOC JSC.

It was previously reported that before the winter season, KEGOC repaired 574 national power grid facilities. The Samruk Kazyna Fund noted that by 2035, KEGOC JSC plans to implement six more projects for the development of the NPG, including the unification of the networks of the western regions with the unified energy system of Kazakhstan, the construction of a direct current line in the North-South direction and a 500 kilovolt line, as well as the continuation of the reconstruction of the company’s electrical networks.

The company is implementing a large-scale investment program, within which three ongoing investment projects are aimed at increasing the reliability of power supply and ensuring energy security.
