China begins construction of world’s largest floating solar power plant

China has begun construction of the world’s largest offshore photovoltaic power plant, Report informs referring to TASS.

It will be located in the waters of the port of Guangli in the eastern province of Shandong. The design of the plant involves placing solar panels on pile foundations. Its capacity will be 1 GW.

The completion date for this project has not been announced. After commissioning, the plant will be able to generate up to 1.78 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. This is equivalent to a reduction in coal consumption of 594,500 tons.
