The 18th Baku Summer Energy School started at ADA University, Report informs.

The Summer school is organized by the ADA University’s Institute for Development and Diplomacy of ADA University and the ADA University Foundation in the framework of joint cooperation with bp Azerbaijan, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), GL Group, KOLIN, Azerbaijan and the Technical University of Georgia.

On July 8, the opening ceremony of the 18th Baku Summer Energy School took place at ADA University.

The Opening Ceremony was honored attended by Ambassador Hafiz Pashayev, Rector of ADA University, Mukhtar Babayev, Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of the Republic Azerbaijan, Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR, Asif Zeynalov, Group CEO of GL Group and Gary Jones, bp Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye.

Rector Hafiz Pashayev mentioned in his welcoming remark that the Baku Summer Energy School has been held every year since 2007. Ambassador Pashayev noted that the program’s focus on energy and environmental problems in the countries of the Caspian region is beneficial for both local and international participants.

During the event, Dr. Fariz Ismailzade, Vice Rector of ADA University and director of the Institute for Development and Diplomacy highlighted that this year's Summer school focuses on the topic of renewables and green energy and is dedicated to the COP29 that will be held in Baku in November of 2024. Moreover, Dr. Ismailzade also mentioned that the BSES aims to contribute to Azerbaijan’s commitment to developing its renewable energy potential, which is an important part of the country’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2050.

Baku Summer Energy School is an international two-week certificate program that brings together well-known scientists, politicians, and experts from around the world to investigate and study energy and ecology issues with a special focus on the Caspian region. The program represents the collective efforts of public and private sectors to contribute to transformative changes, sustainable development, and economic growth in the energy landscape of the Caspian region.

Packed with interactive lectures, case studies, and study visits, this Summer program attracts senior and mid-level professionals from several prominent energy firms, international organizations, and higher education institutes. Moreover, scientists and experts investigating energy and environmental issues attend this year's program.

This year’s program features 50 participants representing 12 countries. Representatives from Azerbaijan, Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, China, Hungary, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Vietnam, the USA and the UK visited Baku to attend the Program. The participants of the program are professionals from diverse organizations such as the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, the Ministry of Energy of Saudi Arabia, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, “bp Azebraijan” , and think tanks of the USA and Hungary.

This intensive two-week program will be conducted one week in Baku, Azerbaijan and one week in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia from July 8 to 19. This international format of the School allows participants to explore regional perspectives on energy issues and the Green Energy Corridor, providing a comprehensive regional approach to classical energy sources and renewable energy topics.
