Azerbaijan's polyethylene exports down by 16%

From January through September 2022, Azerbaijan exported 86,736.79 tons of polyethylene in primary forms for over $112.715 million, Report informs, citing the country's State Customs Committee

These figures are 16.03% and 7.8% less than the same period of January-September 2021, respectively.

In January-September 2022, the share of polyethylene in Azerbaijan's non-oil sector exports was 5.32%. Meanwhile, the percentage of polyethylene in primary forms in the country's total export was 0.38%.

In the first nine months of 2022, Azerbaijan carried out trade operations with foreign countries in the amount of $39.814 billion. Of the nine-month foreign trade turnover, $29.521 billion accounted for exports, and $10.293 billion for imports.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced in Azerbaijan at the SOCAR Polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a Polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a High-Density Polyethylene plant with a yearly production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was commissioned on July 18, 2018, with the participation of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella. The export of polypropylene started on October 5, 2018.
